Guatemala Land of the Quetzal October 9, 2002 till January 13, 2003 Museum of Ethnology Neue Burg, 1010 Vienna Exhibition Homepage >> |
Come and discover the land of the quetzal, as the Mayas called Guatemala, at the Ethnological Museum this October. A comprehensive survey of first-class exhibits deals both with Guatemala under the Mayas and under the Spaniards. The Quetzal, a small brilliantly-coloured bird with feathered train, had already inspired various myths of the Mayas. Today, it is the country’s national symbol, and has even given its name to Guatemala’s currency. The exhibition will document Guatemala’s outstanding cultural importance. Many objects will be on show outside Guatemalan museums for the first time. They are augmented by loans from Spain and Mexico. Exhibition Homepage >> |
