PAUL FLORA Drawings 1938 - 2001 November 25, 2002 till January 12, 2003 Palais Harrach, 1st floor Freyung 3, 1010 Wien |
Paul Flora is undoubtedly one of the most important draughtsmen of our time. Anyone studying the history of drawing will come across his name. Seen in art historical context, Paul Flora is a loner. The hallmarks of his art are an unerring line, a many-layered story, and intelligent humour. His stories are told tenderly and sometimes with a touch of irony. But Flora is someone who thinks and ponders (Friedrich Dürrematt), who is able to introduce spatial and dynamical dimensions into his works. Together with the picture they form the deeper layers of his drawings. His view of the world is more than that of a mere onlooker. It includes a wealth of thoughts, and frequently also explosive material for the viewer. Depending on the subject, the viewer can enjoy Flora´s pictures or be frightened by them, but he will always be enchanted by them. Selected objects
