March 10, 2003 marks the 500th anniversary of the birth of the Emperor Ferdinand I. Despite the fact that the Emperor Ferdinand I has always been overshadowed by his brother, and that other members of his family have exuded more fascination and attracted more popularity, he is considered the most important ruler in the history of Austria. On show will be paintings, drawings, miniatures, engravings and woodcuts by, for example, Pisanello, Titian, Arcimboldo, Terzio, de Flandes, Mor and Vermeyen, as well as by Dürer, Altdorfer, Amberger, Maler, Strigel, and Seisenegger. They will be joined by magnificent suits-of-armour by the most famous armourers, as well as by Netherlandish tapestries. Exhibition Homepage >> |
